This is a 1/2 scale
model of the Electric Vehicle (EV) Module for
trade shows and presentations. The model has
full interior that can be viewed through
all-clear acrylic lid. In order to produce this
model we employed unusually great variety of
rapid prototyping methods: CNC, SLA, SLS, FDM
and laser cutting. The housing was fabricated
out of styrene sheets.
As for the acrylic lid - we attempted to
outsource it from a few local companies that
were proudly calling themselves "acrylic
fabricators". We had a deadline to meet, our
intention was to focus more on model making
aspects rather than acrylic fabrication
therefore outsourcing was a right call to make.
Despite the fact that both companies and one
more independent contractor were advertising
their proficiency in acrylic fabrication, as
soon as they saw that the part is something
other than a simple box all of them decided to
pass. Therefore we just CNC carved the parts and
assembled the lid in house.
We will not call out the names of these
companies - they will know it is about them,
when they will read it. Such providers are a
disgrace to the profession and professional
courtesy. Shame on you!
The model accompanied by custom transit case was
shipped directly to a trade show in Detroit,
where it made a great impression. |
