								After success of

HMMWV model Gamla Model Makers was approached
								again by US Army
Materiel Command (AMC) with request for 4 feet long 1:5
scale model of Navistar based MaxxPro Dash
								International Military Personal Ambush Protected
(MRAP) Vehicle, the newest addition to the MRAP
								vehicle's family. The model should
be representing the latest version of the
MaxxPro Dash and be equipped Picatinny-designed
Objective Gunner Protection Kit (OGPK) armed
								with FN H240 machine gun
								The work started
								with creating a

								3D digital model of
the future physical model. The digital model was
								used to create photorealistic

								3D renderings,
accurate drawings and to produce many parts by
								rapid prototyping techniques.
								Actual
fabrication of the model took only 1.5 month due
to accuracy of reference materials and massive
use of rapid prototyping, including SLA, FDM and
								CNC.
								The hull was
created out of custom cut plastic sheets, frame
and chassis – out of composites, green tinted
acrylic sheets were used for windows to imitate
an armored glass blocks. All exterior surfaces
were textured to imitate armor. The model was
detailed at museum level. Although the model did
not have opening doors, there was a great deal
of work put into interior visible through the
windows. Highly realistic wheels with accurate
representation of threads were created by SLA
and replicated in instant colored resin.
								The model
consumed over 500 screws of different types and
								sizes.
								The model was
accompanied by custom designed and built wheeled

								transit case.
								The
model will be exhibited at military trade shows
promoting services and capabilities of US Army
								Materiel Command.   |
